Back to Reality.

The halls are officially undecked. To be completely honest, they were 100% undecked the day after Christmas. A bit scroogy, huh?
The truth is I am overwhelmed by STUFF and there is STUFF everywhere in my house so the seasonal items had to go. Plus there is a trip for us coming up soon so I had to get out from underneath all this STUFF to find my bags. It took multiple trips to Target to get it all properly put away in the attic. I took my people on one of those Target trips. Do you shop the day after Christmas? I love to get new things for the next year. The Commander wants to put up outdoor lights next year so we went on a mission to find the perfect Christmas lights at 50% off.
OHHH, I forgot how he doesn't do anything small. In my opinion, we should have enough lights to light up our street. Next year we very well could be the Griswalds of the neighborhood. We shall see. Anyway, all of his outdoor lighting was used to fill up my last empty tote so that meant a trip back to Target for more totes.
...NEVER FUN FOR ME.
Is picking out totes stressful for anyone else or is this just another one of my OCD/neurotic ways? I can stand there for 30 minutes staring and comparing. Will this one be big enough? I wonder if two smaller ones would fit my items better? Maybe I should just buy a few of these large ones and get rid of some of the smaller ones. Then that might be too hard to get in and out of the attic. I like the ones with the latches and handles. They cost more. It is really worth paying more for a latch and handle? It is just a tote after all.
WHEW! My sensible self realizes this is not normal! That's 30 minutes in the Target storage aisle that I can't get back. I should have moved to the kitchen aisle after 5minutes for a more enjoyable shopping experience.
I did pick up three drawer organizers. Two of my drawers are happy now. I had mismatched containers in them that served no real purpose except to collect junk.
The new ones are MUCH better. They've given my drawers a fresh start anyway. I'm sure they will have collected just as much junk by this time next year...just being honest.
I am giving myself a pat on the back for the jump start on my New Year's resolution--GET ORGANIZED! Have you got any tips for the car? That seems to be my weak spot.
The passenger seat is also used as my filing cabinet. People don't always enjoy shuffling though preschool papers, bills, and mail to take a ride with me.
I don't really want something to hang over the seat, but I'm diggin this right now.

Although something like this in the back seat might be nice for some of my paperwork.

You'd think I could just pull the papers out of the car every time I get out, but that's just not my style. It's all I can do to get myself and the kids out of the car. We're usually running about 5-10 min behind so maybe that could be another resolution...leave 10 minutes earlier.

No Room at the N

I'll give you one guess as to who snatches letters.
Hint: He's been known to break ornaments and has snatched three letters from two keyboards.

Did you guess him?

We'll just think of it the Wild Thing's way of telling the Christmas story until we get a new keyboard. :)
May your Christmas week be Merry and Bright!

..she wrapped him in cloths and placed him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

New Direction.

So I've been giving a lot of thought lately about this blog and how I feel like it needs a purpose or some direction for 2011.
I'll still post the kid updates mostly for the grandparents and for my own record, but I think the majority of the posts will be dedicated to time or money saving tips. I'm no expert in either area, but being a good steward of money has been in my nature for as long as I can remember. I was never one to go out and immediately spend the money I earned babysitting or working. I stock piled it in my red safe that had a lock. My sister learned the combination and often used that as leverage, but she never took a dime. Trust me. I counted that money regularly and knew exactly the balance. I've had several conversations lately that have led me to believe this might be a good direction for the blog. I'll share money/time saving tips that are my own or some that I find helpful from other people.

My first tip is to get one of these. This is your best friend. Keep it in your purse.

It's a coupon organizer from DayRunner. See the nice, neat pockets that are labeled. They are making it that easy for you to save your money. Now, there's not a pocket for child care products so I use the one dedicated to pet supplies for my kids. Pets, Kids..Sort of the same thing, right? :)
Every Sunday I go straight for the coupons. Sometimes I even plan our meals for the week based on what I'm going to get from those coupons. If you save an average of $5.00/week which is realistic and can easily be more then that's an average of $260/year right back in your account to do what you please and it takes very little effort. I wish I could say that I saved my receipts to determine exactly how much we saved last year, but I'm just not that organized.

If you don't get the weekend paper then you can still print coupons from sites like this.
I hope you'll come along on this journey and share what works for you as well.
We all value our time and money so here's to making the most of it in 2011!

Dear Santa,

I don't like all this talk about naughty and nice.
I am the Wild Thing, but I don't want you to recognize me because I like toys. I can be good, but it's hard not to break (destroy) the ornaments on the tree. They are just too easy to grab. At this rate, we won't have any ornaments for next year, but I'll work on it, Santa...really, I will.
Please bring me a grill, some toys and candy for my good behavioral efforts.

My brother wants a car, zhu zhu pets, a remote control motor cycle, a cowboy with a horse, and all the toys from the catalogs.
OH, and if you have enough room in your bag he also wants all the toys he sees on TV.

So Santa, if you could please look past my innocent, wild ways and drop off a few toys, we sure would appreciate it.
Thanks big guy,
Wild Thing.

Weekend

So much for ignoring the blog with hopes that it would magically fix itself. The ole white screen of death with a hint of Christmas is still in full force and it's going to be for a few more days weeks until I can get it fixed. This past weekend was scheduled to the max. The Commander and I both worked and the Wild Thing celebrated his 2nd birthday (at our house). We packed in two other birthday parties and a Christmas parade on Friday night. Can you say POOPED?? The Preschooler rode on his class float and it was cold! I think he summed it up best by asking his teacher if it could go any faster. We felt the same way as spectators. He has officially started his first sport...Upward Basketball. I'm so impressed with the program already. I think he's going to like it a lot. He had his first practice last night. They got their uniforms and he wanted to sleep in his. His team is the Razorbacks! He loves that!!! I'm about to enjoy a bowl of chili and put up our Christmas tree. It's the last thing left to complete our decorations. First I had to take down the left overs from the barn yard bash. Pics to come soon. Here's a sneak peak of the party. Let me remind you that we are true southerners. I was reminded of this fact as I listened to this video. I was further reminded when my dad (Grandaddy) asked who was calling the ducks and it was him. He was impressed by the sound of his own duck call. I should also let you know there were NO ducks at this party.
