Out of the Mouths of Babes.

Me: Pick up the toys.
Preschooler: I don't know how.
ME: PICK.UP.THE.TOYS.
Preschooler: IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW, YOU DON'T KNOW HOW!
His memory was jogged after he pushed the issue right up to the limit.

Not much comes out of the mouth of the Wild Thing except grunting that is accompanied by pointing. He brings his cup when he wants something to drink. If you don't get up and fill his glass then he will take it, put it in the kitchen, and position himself directly in front of you so his pointing/grunting can not be missed. He says MAAAA MAAAAAA when he's mad.
Thanks to the Preschooler, he shakes his fist when asked "you want a piece of me?"
I guess you could say he's into sign language.

A Father's Day Gift.

My assistant along with his assistant went to check out our sunflowers in the back flower bed and BOY were we in for a surprise.

There it was!

A tomato plant has been flourishing in the back flower bed without our knowledge. It is hearty and FULL of blooms so we staked it up and gave it plenty of water. It's so appropriate that it was discovered on father's day.
My dad has been struggling with his tomato plants for the last few years so he was determined to have an abundance of tomatoes this year. He sterilized the ground, brought in new dirt, sterilized his stakes in bleach water, and proceeded to plant over 20 plants. Then they wilted! Almost all of them so he took a sample to the county extension office. They ran some tests and generated this fancy report stating tobacco kills!

Apparently the seeds he used came in contact at some point with tobacco.
So here it is Grandaddy!

This plant's for you. It was discovered on Father's day and I'm convinced it was put in the Preschooler's garden from your dad.
Happy Father's Day, DAD! We love you!

Fit for a Fit.

FIT: disruptive or undesirable behaviors or emotional outbursts displayed in response to unmet needs or desires. I won't name names or anything, but those that throw fits may appear like this.

The kicking typically starts after the fit thrower gently places his head on the floor.

If the fit is ignored by the party in which it is intended then the fit thrower has been known to move his location in order to gain attention.

These fits typically occur daily and last anywhere from 5 min to 5 seconds depending on the mood and intention of the fit thrower.

It's a Party Potty.

I wasn't sure what to think when I walked into this!
1) IS HE REALLY? (Based on the Karate Kid's laughter and these pictures I guess he was!)

2) It's time to potty train?
>
3) It's a party in the potty? Should I provide floaties or a life jacket?
>
4) Purchase the toilet latches that only the Wild Thing can unlatch and maneuver?

Thankfully the house was cleaned from top to bottom today so he had a clean adventure. (Although this still earned him a second bath!)

Fight with a Smile.

Let me introduce you to Karate Man. We still don't know his real name and even if we did it just wouldn't seem right calling him anything other than "karate man".
He goes all over town teaching karate to preschoolers, but admitted this group is his favorite. How could it not be? Just look at them. They "fight" with smiles.

They yell KEE-YAH! with fierce.

Each kid broke a board for the first time.

It took most of the them two tries. Some wanted to cry after the first failed attempt, but he whispered something magical to those kids. They regained their composures, resumed the proper stance, reached back, and broke their boards!
Our kid jumped up and down and shouted "YES! I did IT"! This made me proud and the audience laughed.

With that, we have ourselves an outstanding KARATE KID! I'll leave you with this knowledge he shared. "We don't break boards with flip flops or shoes that show your toes or you will hurt your toe".

Pacified.

One day when the Preschooler was about 2 years old I gathered up all of the pacifiers and put them away. They were gone and it was as easy as that. He called for his "bop" a few times, but for the most part they were out of sight so out of mind.

I don't think it's going to be as easy this time. Sometimes (most of the time) one just isn't enough.

They are stashed in secret places. Sometimes I discover them in the most unlikely places and other times I watch the Wild Thing pull them from secret hiding places. It's amusing.
Don't dare tease that you are going to take one of his prized possessions because he will guard it (all of them) with all of his might.

When Life Gives You Oil, Add A Little Vinegar And Make A Lovely Vinaigrette

Ok--I totally stole that title from boomama and it has nothing to do with my post, but hers is so cleverly written and true that I thought it bears repeating. How can an oil company be so big and not have a plan in case..oh I don't know AN OIL LEAK EVER OCCURRED!? GEEZ! The latest I've heard is it will be August at the earliest for the leak to be contained.

I've been trying to reach out to my bloggy friends for quite some time, but kept getting an error message that blogger was down so I've been out of the loop! I'm going to catch up soon though.
In the mean time, I've been tending to my container garden and potted plants.

And YES, that is an OWL keeping a careful watch over my prized possessions. I'm not messing around this year. ;)

I'm trying REAL HARD not to kill them before July! Cause that's what I do, people. I go crazy every spring buying up plants and then I kill them. Every year it happens. It's in my DNA I suppose because you can bet your bottom dollar that my plants will be bone dry by the end of July. Maybe this year will be the exception. Like I said..I'm not playing around this time.
I even bought a hibiscus tree.

I almost returned it when Dodo told me it had to be stored in the winter. WHAT? I kill plants in the winter too. The Preschooler even noticed. He asked when we were going to water our dead plants in the garage. NICE.
So..if you would be so kind to give me and the plants some prayerful consideration..well, we would appreciate it. :)
