Trading Places.

The Commander volunteered to stay home with a sick Wild Thing so I could go to work today. After experiencing the good, bad, and the ugly, I think he's looking forward to getting back to his work place tomorrow. Here's a run down of our day:
8:10: The Commander drops off Mini #1.
I called to say the Wild Thing has an appointment at 8:30.
(It takes a good 25 minutes to get to the doctor's office so I knew this was starting off bad)
8:20: The Commander calls for directions.
Me: Take the exit with the car dealership.
Turn Left.
When you get to the hospital turn right. I can't remember the street name.
At the stop sign, turn left and go through the next light.
The doctor's office will be one block down on the right.
**This seems completely logical in my mind, but not so much in his.
He starts drilling me with questions like what's the exit number? Are you saying turn south? Do you know the address for the clinic?
We're both getting irritated at this point so I text him the address and they arrive right on time for us (10 minutes late).
He later mentioned that I could very well be the worst person ever for giving directions. We've agreed to disagree on this matter.

Last night I took a picture of the Wild Thing's rash that he was experiencing with fever and texted it to the Commander as a reminder to show the doctor.
After the appointment I asked what the Dr. said about his rash and he replied "well there were signs posted everywhere to keep your cell phone off so I didn't show it to him." SO.VERY.LITERAL. I thought he was joking...he wasn't.

I often worry about the Commander being on the road since he commutes about an hour each way so if there is any risk of bad weather then I will tell him to watch it closely and don't risk it if it looks bad. Well, today we had severe thunderstorms with flooding. The Preschool called around 2:30 to say they were closing due to all the flooding. I got a text this afternoon that read
"you might want to stay there with all this bad weather".
He probably forwarded one of my old ones. It made me laugh!

My FAVORITE quote of the day:

"I had a list of things that I was going to get done today and it just didn't happen."

Now he's got the answer to his OH so popular question:
What DID you do today?
Full Disclosure: He did the laundry, put it away, and wrote on the calendar when to give the Wild thing his medicine...well done Mr. Mom. Well done.

Easter '11

We had a very rainy Easter Sunday, but it didn't stop us from eating and spending time with family. There was an abundance of food and I enjoyed every.single.bite! Mom and Dad always go above and beyond for us. I'm pretty sure they also feast when we aren't around because dad likes to call and tell me about the wonderful meal they just finished...at 2:30 in the afternoon. :)
This is the bunny cake that my Grandmother made for us growing up and mom has continued the tradition. I asked her if the bunny had been crying because of his blood shot eyes. :)

I guess we are starting a new tradition because this is the second consecutive holiday where the 5 year old and 15 year have inadvertently dressed alike. I'm sure this NEVER happens with girls.

We dyed Easter eggs and played with toys from the Easter Bunny.

It was INCREDIBLE seeing all of the water on our trip to their house. We have had over 7 inches of rain and several more are expected through Wednesday. WHEW!
At this rate, we might be playing Marco/Polo with the neighbors.

Imagination Movers

A few weeks ago, we took our "groupies" to Kansas City to meet their favorite singers. They were in our area in 2007 (pre Disney show) so this was our second time to see the Imagination Movers.
They put on a great show and engaged all sections of the audience. We had a GREAT time! We joined the Movers in the "Think Tank" after the show for even more entertainment.
Choo Choo Soul train opened the show and were also at the after party.
The Movers commented on Mini #1's "vintage tee". (We got it the first time we saw them) so it's no longer available. ha!
For some reason they performed two shows in one day in Kansas City. We were at the second show. They looked a little tired during the photo sessions. :)

The show was fantastic and the after show was equally fun. The kids ate a healthy snack, sang a few songs with the movers, and posed for pictures.
Nina is just as bubbly in person as she is on tv.
We'll definitely be back for the next tour.

Thursday.

I had to laugh at myself with the LAME TITLE! Seriously, I'm having the hardest time coming up with anything related to this blog, but I thought I could at least document one of our ordinary days.
*The Wild Thing is doing SO MUCH BETTER at our weekly gym class. I'm glad we stuck with it because I've found it to be really fun and enjoyable.

*ANTS!!! The Wild Thing calls them Bees, but they're ANTs that are taking over our house. I bleached the shower today and had to stare at the remains during my shower tonight. GROSS! We've sprayed around the doors and windows with Home Defense, put granules around the yard, cleaned the kitchen counters with peppermint, and used vinegar in the dishwasher. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE! UGH. I finally called pest control today to schedule an appointment. On the plus side, the Wild Thing LOVES hunting for "bees". He gets excited when he finds one...then he stomps it with his foot. :)

*I started filling out the mountain of paper work to enroll Mini #1 in kindergarten. It caused me anxiety so I quit. I just don't want that kid to grow up any faster! I like his preschool and I adore his teacher. We had her twice so she's practically family now. How can we leave her? Her notes about how she's going to miss him don't make it any easier...UGH! He's so excited to start this new adventure. He even told her "I can't stay with you forever. I have to go to kindergarten." Sigh...I guess we have to send him.

I will run free.

The Commander bought me these shoes about a year ago. Did you catch that last part? A YEAR AGO. He claimed they were "a good deal". They are still brand, spankin' new.
I used to be a runner. I was even a good runner way back in the high school days. I held my school's record in high jump and even competed in the state championship for long distance running. Fast forward to today and I don't think I could run around the block if I tried. BUT..starting this weekend, I'm going to try! The runner brisk walker in me is coming back and eventually I'll get to a jog then maybe eventually a decent speed run.
I was probably wearing biker shorts underneath some athletic shorts and I could "pump up" my Nikes the last time I ran so a trip for socially acceptable athletic clothing is on the list for tomorrow.
Wish me luck. It will be hard not to enjoy my first run/brisk walk.
I'll be on a vacation surrounded by natural beauty and hot springs while these guys take up their wrestling at the Grandparents' house.

(That's totally a head lock and not a hug).

Told ya. :)
